Overview of Finding Heroes Park of Somonauk

As you enter the park, the first podium on your left outlines the theme and layout of the park.

See narrative below

Finding Heroes Park has two themes:

 1. The American Battle Monuments Commission (Finding Heroes)

2. Navigation (Finding Places)

The flagpole represents where you are now on the face of the earth (Somonauk).

The marker stones in the pavement represent other locations across the globe. For instance, as you walk south from the flagpole you come to first the equator and then the South Pole.

The scale of the park is approximately 1 foot = 100 statute miles.

Imagine the park as a small scale map of the world.

The flagpole represents the ground point of Somonauk on the earth. For every pace of 3 feet you take, you are walking almost 300 miles along the earth! The South Pole is 9080 miles south of Somonauk, therefore the marker is 90.8 feet south of the flagpole. Similarly, the closest point on the  equator is 2865 statute miles away or 28.65 feet in the park.
