Park Story

|
Finding Heroes Park in Somonauk, Illinois is a learning tool for navigation and serves as a micro-monument to the war memorials and cemeteries maintained throughout the world by the American Battle Monuments Commission. The park was planned and constructed by retired farmer Tom Warren of rural Somonauk. It is part of a 32 acre parcel he owned which was subsequently developed as a residential subdivision. Tom did the park project entirely on his own. There was no government assistance or any subsidy involved. He donated the park to the Village of Somonauk after construction was completed. A stranger in Somonauk may not be aware of it’s presence as it is located in a residential subdivision in the NW corner of the village. It is well worth the effort to make a trip dedicated to visiting this outdoor classroom and tribute to our fallen heroes in a beautiful park setting.
